Just a short drive south of Portland, Oregon, McMinnville is home to some nice wineries with beautiful views.
The Durant Vineyards also makes olive oils. Their tasting room lets you sample the oils before buying. This beautiful vineyard features a lovely Lavender field. It smelled so wonderful.
McMinnville is also home to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum which houses the Spruce Goose. Built by Howard Hughes, it was the largest wooden airplane ever to fly.
You are able to go inside the Spruce Goose, though only in a small section. Here we are inside. And in the picture above you can see people going up the stairs to enter the plane.
Our friendly Gnome Norm was a cheeky fellow and crossed the barrier to sit on the nose of a plane. Joel had to go catch him before he got into any more mischief.
On the way back to Portland we stopped to hike up the Multnomah Falls. The hike is only about a mile each way, however, it is quite steep. This is the second tallest year-round waterfall in the US with a total height of about 620 feet (189m).
There is a easy to follow path up to the top. The sign said the trail was about a mile each way though it is steep and a bit strenuous heading up. The views from the top were worth the very hot, sticky hike up. Yeah, we’re trying not to stand too close while still looking as though we like each other.
