Wild flowers at Kohler-Andrae S.P.

Sheboygan, Wisconsin

About an hour north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin is Sheboygan (we have since come to realize there is also a Cheboygan, Michigan – pronounced exactly the same).

Where’s Waldo? Apparently near Sheboygan.

We booked a night at the Kohler-Andrae State Park because we like state parks and this one had a spot available. We had zero expectations, which is sometimes the best thing.

Here is how their website describes the park:

“Named for John Michael Kohler and Terry Andrae state parks, Kohler-Andrae is the home of majestic sand dunes, miles of golden beach, shimmering blue Lake Michigan water, whispering pines, an abundance of wildlife and recreational activities. Kohler-Andrae State Park is one of the last natural preserves along the Lake Michigan shore and is open for everyone to explore and enjoy.”

Our campsite was tucked into a small wooded area near the beach. There are marshland trails and over two miles of sandy beaches along the lake. We had no idea Wisconsin had anything coastal, let alone a beach that reminded us of beaches in Southern California or Cancun, Mexico.

While the water was a little cooler than other beaches we’ve been to, it was a warm day and the water felt great. We were sorry that we only booked one night here – we’ve already added it to our list of places to go to next time we come back here.

Continuing north around Lake Michigan we drove through the cute little town of Two Rivers. This town’s claim to fame is that the ice cream sundae was invented here. Sadly, it was a bit late and we were not too hungry so we didn’t get one. Ah well, another thing to add to our ever-growing list of things to do.

Just north of Green Bay, Wisconsin, along the Green Bay, is a small county park called North Bay Shore. We arrived just after a large line of storms blew through the area. Things were still wet and trees were damaged, but the park was in really good shape considering how bad the storm was (at least one of the campers had serious damage to the roof of his trailer).

We only spent one night here. It is a nice little park however, at this point our goal was to get up into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to spend some time exploring. And we finally made it to Michigan, our 47th State!!!!

Who does what here? Honestly, it’s really a good collaboration. We both decide where to go and plan the trip together. Once at our destination, Jeri takes most of the pictures and edits them for our website, though Joel has a much longer arm and is better at taking our selfies. Once the pictures are done then Jeri writes the posts and Joel edits them before they go live. Joel is also the IT guy when things go wrong (but what could possible go wrong when a computer is involved?)
