Along the way from Charlotte to Charleston

We began our day in downtown Charlotte at the NASCAR Museum. I was impressed with the building. Once we were inside Joel was excited to see all the older cars and history. See his face…he might be a wee bit happier than me to be here.

Uh oh, I think Joel found his next tool chest. I wonder if he realizes it won’t fit in the suitcase. 🤣

Our 11th President, James Polk, was born in North Carolina. This is not a National Park site but they did stamp our passport book with their State passport stamp.

We took the tour of the house and kitchen cabins. This was described as the “swiffer” of their day…when the corn husk wore down they would just change it out.

No windows in the bedroom but they had a door for ventilation. They were considered upper class at the time.

The house on the left was where they lived. On the right is the kitchen cabin.

A park ranger at the Polk Historic Site described Congaree National Park to us as a big swamp in the middle of the state. The sign at the visitor center seemed to confirm it. We didn’t stay long but the parts we saw were pretty.

Who does what here? Honestly, it’s really a good collaboration. We both decide where to go and plan the trip together. Once at our destination, Jeri takes most of the pictures and edits them for our website, though Joel has a much longer arm and is better at taking our selfies. Once the pictures are done then Jeri writes the posts and Joel edits them before they go live. Joel is also the IT guy when things go wrong (but what could possible go wrong when a computer is involved?)
