Norm the Gnome, our traveling companion.

Aruba

While on our Caribbean cruise in 2012 we had an entire day at port in Aruba, so we took a taxi in the morning to a nearby beach. We ended up taking 2 taxis that day and both drivers were so friendly and informative. They answered all our questions and told us some history about the island.

The famous Divi Divi tree is Aruba’s natural compass, always pointing in a southwesterly direction due to the trade winds that blow across the island from the north-east.

The beaches in Aruba are some of the best we’ve visited. White sand for miles! This is Eagle Beach, which we visited so we could see a divi divi tree. But really, even without the trees the beach was fantastic.

I’m told the island gets more repeat visitors than other Caribbean islands. It is located outside the hurricane belt and has great weather (averaging 82F/27C) year round.

Aruba’s international airport is right on the beach.
One last look as we sail away.

Who does what here? Honestly, it’s really a good collaboration. We both decide where to go and plan the trip together. Once at our destination, Jeri takes most of the pictures and edits them for our website, though Joel has a much longer arm and is better at taking our selfies. Once the pictures are done then Jeri writes the posts and Joel edits them before they go live. Joel is also the IT guy when things go wrong (but what could possible go wrong when a computer is involved?)
