Marietta, Georgia

A short drive north of Atlanta is the small town of Marietta. We drove up to see some of Joel’s family and discovered a really cute town. Downtown features a town square with shops and restaurants all around it, and very friendly people.

The town square often has bands playing with many sitting out on benches or blankets.

Nearby is the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield. The 2,923-acre (11.8 km2) battlefield includes the site of some of the heaviest fighting of the Atlanta Campaign of the Civil War.

The Visitor Center

Not too far from Kennesaw is another National Park site, the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area in Sandy Springs, GA. The Chattahoochee River itself is one of Georgia’s premier trout streams. Next to the visitor center is a very short, easy trail down to the river.

Who does what here? Honestly, it’s really a good collaboration. We both decide where to go and plan the trip together. Once at our destination, Jeri takes most of the pictures and edits them for our website, though Joel has a much longer arm and is better at taking our selfies. Once the pictures are done then Jeri writes the posts and Joel edits them before they go live. Joel is also the IT guy when things go wrong (but what could possible go wrong when a computer is involved?)
